We typically make sure our sculptures’ heads won’t fall off but in this case it was a requirement – every night for the entire run of Classic Stage’s production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle. In the show, cast members topple the monument, breaking it into pieces. We engineered strategic breaking points at the legs and neck with a fool-proof trigger mechanism so the actors could concentrate on their lines, not the props.
